Okashira of the Onmitsu Oniwabanshuu, a group of spies/ninja who protected Edo Castle during the Bakumatsu, Shinomori Aoshi came into the new Meiji era regretful only that the Bakumatsu ended with the Oniwabanshuu not seeing battle.

Okashira since he was the tender age of 15, he led the group into the new Meiji era, where, as they were no longer needed, they became regular citizens, running an inn called the Aoiya, which served as their headquarters as well. Four of the 11 ninja couldn't possibly work as normal people in the new age. They were too disfigured, too out of place, and only knew how to fight. Although he was offered many cushy government jobs for himself, Aoshi declined, opting to stay with these four instead, and taking them to find jobs in Tokyo.

Usually gloomy and brooding, he's loyal and caring.. and has a really spiffy butt-bow when he's wearing his Oniwabanshuu shinobi fuku thingie..! :x
