Free description - History (according to the mind of Youko, including spoilers about his death) Seed was born “somewhere in the Highland Kingdom,” and so Youko took this situation into her own hands. Seed was born into a small village near the borders of the Highland Kingdom, and when he was born, there was a war going on between the Jowston City-State (which included the cities of Two-River, Matilda Knights of Rockaxe, Muse, Greenhill, and Tinto) with the Highland Kingdom. Seed had to grow up in this type of environment, of course. And when he was six, the Matilda Knights surrounded his village and put them under siege. This went on for months where the Matilda Knights won’t take anything other than an unconditional surrender. The villagers have now began to starve and panicked. The village mayor then made the final law: to reduce the number of mouths to feed, which meant killing the children. One night, when Seed was sleeping, his parents discussed the starvation, and Seed’s father pulled out a knife with a fire rune embedded in it, intending to kill Seed. Seed’s mother began to scream about the unjust of this law, and Seed awoke to the sight of his father stabbing him. However, the stab did not kill Seed, for it did not hit a vital. But Seed passed out due to the shock, and his father thought that Seed was dead. He then took Seed to the edge of the forest and buried him lightly for the soil was hard (Seed’s hand was still emerging out of the ground). A few minutes after Seed’s father left, Seed crawled out of the ground, bleeding and hateful. He swore eternal hatred and vengeance on the Matilda Knights that day and left for the forest (for he knew he couldn’t go home). After he wandered around for some time, he was picked up by and orphanage in the Grasslands (south of Highlands, west of Jowston). Camus Jerome McDune’s mother founded the orphanage. Needless to say, Camus and Seed became fast friends and also rivals (because Camus had beaten Seed in nearly everything that Seed can do well in). At one point when Seed was around 10, people adopted nearly every child in the orphanage, but Seed wasn’t. Seed wasn’t liked because of his background (everyone knew that he was from the war), and Seed knew it very well. He was crying about how he’s got no family, and no one loved him when Camus told him: “You still have me!” Seed replied, “But, Camus is not blood related to me.” And so Camus took out a small knife and cut a slash horizontally on the right palms of both of them. He told Seed that if they were to put the wounds together like this, then they could become “blood brothers.” And so Seed gained the first cut to his hand. When Seed turned 14; Camus had given Seed this bouquet of flowers that was dubbed “The Bloody Lovers” because of its legend. The legend said that two lovers were feuding one day, and one of them, out of anger, killed the other. The blood of the deceased then bloomed the flowers. There was then a curse on the flower, which stated that whomever gives the flower to his lover would kill his lover (the one who receives the flowers). Seed and Camus brushed this as a joke. Then, one day when Camus was 16, and Seed was 15, Camus received a letter from the Matilda Knights, asking that he joined them. Camus wanted go (he didn’t know about Seed’s past) because he thought that this was a good chance, but Seed didn’t want Camus to go. He kept on telling Camus to go, and Camus had no idea why Seed was holding him back. At one point, Camus asks, “Don’t you get it, Seed? I...” Then Seed cuts him off by shouting: “It’s YOU who doesn’t get it! Gorudo is a self-righteous BUM!! Can’t you see that I love you?!?” Camus slapped Seed after he said that (not because of the “I love you” part, but because of the “Gorudo is a self-righteous bum” part...Gorudo is the leader of the Matilda Knights.) Seed, completely shattered by that action (he thought that Camus hated him, that’s why Camus slapped him), began to walk out. Camus tried to apologize, but Seed threw the words: “Fine. Do what you want, you bastard!” and ran out without looking back. The next day, Camus was leaving for Rockaxe when he went to say goodbye to the orphanage. Seed wasn’t there to see him off. When Camus asked about Seed, the people at the orphanage said that Seed said that he wasn’t feeling well, so couldn’t come out. Then the person took out a box and handed it to Camus, saying that it was from Seed. Camus took it, and put it into his pocket without opening it. Then he left. Meanwhile, Seed had been watching all of this from his room window, thinking that Camus hated him so much that he wouldn’t even open the box. So Seed decided that he would leave the orphanage and become a soldier in the Highland Army in order to be able to fight Camus (and win over him in the rivalry). And thus Seed went and joined the Unicorn Youth Brigade (which was a small unit of soldiers in the Highland Army that was composed entirely of young boys to train them). At the Unicorn Youth Brigade, the captain of the unit thought that Seed wasn’t soldier material because Seed looked quite scrawny, so he wanted to test Seed out. He handed Seed a lance and told Seed to fight a ferocious three headed monster. Seed won easily due to his agility and skill in swordsmenship. After that fight, the captain appointed Seed as lieutenant of the unit. When Seed was being appointed the place, the Captain asked Seed if he wanted to do something about his hair (there were no restrictions about the hairstyle, but it would be troublesome). Seed thought about it, because he grew it for Camus had said it was very pretty. But now that he would become an enemy with Camus, he cut it and said: “Now that I am a man of war, I no longer need such things to decorate my body!” One day, a few months after the appointment of that office, Seed overheard some chatter. The people of his unit were saying how the heir of the McDune family had become the Leader of the Red Knights (a division of the Matilda Knights) and Gorudo’s personal bodyguard. When Seed heard this, he was near the point of insanity. He began to train himself incredulously and went through many hardships he bore onto himself to the point where his flesh was almost decaying from the inside out. One day, he split a boulder with his rapier and then fell onto the ground, exhausted. A passerby said that he was very strong and interesting, so he asked if Seed would like to become an officer in the one of the companies of the Highland Army. This passerby was King Agares of the Highland Army. Seed agreed to go. Of course, when knights of Highland are to be sworn in, they must cut themselves on their hands and drip blood into wine, which the King will then drink. Seed cut his hand, over the scar from the Blood Brothers ritual, making a cross scar on his hand (he wanted to wipe out that Blood Brother pact). Ten years later, Seed met Camus again during the final battle (of Suikoden II), and the two engaged in a dual, which Seed said: “Will decide the rivalry.” During the fight, Camus tried fruitlessly to convince Seed to leave Highland and join them. Seed thought about it, but he realized that he was in too deep to go back. At one point during the fight, Seed had Camus cornered by the wall, and he was pressing Camus’ sword down. Camus thought that if he could ensue enough strength to knock Seed’s sword out from his hand, then he can convince Seed to not fight anymore. Seed, while telling Camus to yield, saw something that he thought he would never see. Camus was wearing a necklace, which turned out to be the necklace in the small box that Seed gave Camus (the one he thought Camus never opened). Upon seeing that, Seed loosened his strength on the sword just when Camus thought that he should use all his strength to knock the sword out of Seed’s hand. Due to this, Camus struck with all his strength. And instead of knocking the sword out of Seed’s hands, he slashed a huge gash over Seed’s chest, a fatal wound. Seed fell to the ground, and Camus caught him. While Seed was dying, he laughed and told Camus that he always thought Camus hated him, and now this proved it completely. He also stated that he was weak and could never win over Camus. Camus tried to tell him not to talk, and wanted to tell Seed that he didn’t hate Seed. But Seed told Camus to not talk, let him do all the talking (cuz he’s dying). Seed whispered something to Camus, making Camus’ eyes widen (the readers never find out what he said). Seed then laughs bitterly and says: “But what good is it in saying that? For you love someone else and hate me so…” Then he dies in Camus’ arms, thinking even in his death that Camus hated him. After Seed dies, Camus began to cry, saying that it was not true, that he had loved Seed. It turned out that Camus had known about Seed’s past ever since they were little, but never mentioned it to Seed. He joined the Matilda Knights because he wanted to make it better, to let Seed have a little less hatred in his heart (for when he saw Seed, he knew that Seed had too much hatred). He wanted to make Seed happy. Camus also said that Seed was much stronger than he was, but he wanted to get stronger than Seed because he wanted to protect Seed. And now it was just too late.
